VISITING OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS IN THE US AT THE MITTAG-LEFFLER
INSTITUTE, Fall 2002
US-Sweden Workshop on Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory On the occasion of a special semester on Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory, organized by Ari Laptev, Victor Guillemin, and Bernard Helffer, at the Mittag-Leffler Institute in Djursholm, Sweden, we have organized a US-Sweden Workshop for young investigators. The National Science Foundation (funding recommended) and the Mittag-Leffler Institute will support 5--6 young researchers at institutions in the US for 1--3 months of stay during the fall of 2002, including travel. We solicit applications from advanced doctoral students and new PhDs at US institutions (within 5 years of the degree) for this unique opportunity. Interested mathematicians should submit the following material by 1 MAY 2002:
Applicants will be chosen by a committee consisting of Evans Harrell, Ira Herbst, Peter Hislop (chair), Barry Simon, Steve Zelditch, and Maciej Zworski. Awards will be announced by 1 June 2002. Additional information on the program may be found at the Mittag-Leffler Institute. |

ASYMPTOTIC PROPERTIES OF TIME EVOLUTIONS
IN CLASSICAL AND QUANTUM SYSTEMS, The purpose of this meeting is to gather specialists of microlocal analysis (including semiclassical analysis) on one side, and specialists of classical dynamical systems on the other side, in order to emphasize the relations between these two very active areas of mathematical physics. To this aim, the conference will be centered around two series of lectures~: one given by J.~Sj\"ostrand on the correspondence between the existence of trapped classical trajectories and the location of quantum resonances ; the other one given by C.~Liverani on dynamical systems oriented towards quantum mechanics. The rest of the talks will deal with some recent developments concerning long-time evolution problems, quantum chaos, scattering theory, resonances, etc. Organizing committee: S. Graffi, A. Martinez Accomodation: A very limited number of double rooms only is available at the University guest-house (a 10 minutes walk from the Mathematics Department), at the cost of 70.000 Lire (around 40 USD) for single occupancy, or 35.000 Lire (around 20 USD) for double occupancy. These places will be given on a first-come first-served basis (please indicate if you accept or not to share the room). Attendance is free, no registration fee is required. People wishing to attend are just requested to send an e-mail to: APTEX@dm.unibo.it or send a fax to the organizers at: 00-39-051 35 44 90, specifying whether they apply for the guest-house or not. |
